Set up your service areas

Service areas are the places you work. They decide where clients can find you in the RebookMedia directory and which addresses clients can book you for. If a client's address isn't inside one of your service areas, they can't book you online.

This article explains how to add and remove service areas, how they are matched to clients, and how to set them up for your team.

Where to find it: At the top right of the page, click the grid icon (Navigation Panel) and choose Storefront, then click Service Areas in the left menu.

Before you start

  1. You may already have one. When you entered your business address during onboarding, we added the whole county you are in as your first service area.
  2. Think in counties first. A county covers every city in it, so it is the simplest way to cover the area you travel to. Add individual cities when you only work in part of a county.
  3. Your business address is separate. Your business address (in Settings, Business tab) is used for driving time and for Meet Local Pros. It doesn't decide where clients can book you; your service areas do.

The Service Areas page

The top of the page shows how many service areas you have and your plan's allowance, for example "3 of 10 used". Below it, each area is listed with its State, Country and a Remove button. An area is shown as:

  1. a city name, for example "Bridgewater", when it covers one city;
  2. "All of" and a county name, for example "All of Somerset County", when it covers a whole county.

Add a service area

  1. Click Add Service Area.
  2. In City, county or ZIP code, start typing the place, for example "Bridgewater, NJ" or "Somerset County, NJ".
  3. Pick the place from the list that appears. You must pick from the list; typing alone isn't enough.
  4. Check the preview under Clients here can book you. It shows exactly what will be saved.
  5. Click Add Service Area. You will see "Service area added." and the area appears in your list.
Tip: Repeat these steps for each place you cover. You can add as many areas as your plan allows.

Choose the right kind of area

  1. A county covers every city and town in that county. This is the best choice for most pros.
  2. A city covers only that city. The city in the client's address has to match it, so a client whose postal address names a neighboring town won't match.
  3. A ZIP code is saved as the city it belongs to, so it covers that whole city, not only the ZIP code.
  4. A whole state or country can't be added. You will see "Please pick a city, county or ZIP code (not a whole state or country)." Add each county you cover instead.

If you pick a neighborhood or borough, it is saved as its city, or as its whole county when it has no city. The preview always shows what will be saved.

Remove a service area

  1. Click Remove on the area's row.
  2. Click Confirm remove within a few seconds. You will see "Service area removed."

You can add a removed area again at any time.

How service areas are used

  1. Directory search: when clients search for your category in a place, you appear if one of your areas covers it (and your category is listed).
  2. Online booking: when a client enters the service address on your profile or booking page, it must be inside one of your service areas. If it isn't, they see "This Pro does not service this address."
  3. Choosing a professional: when you have a team, clients are only offered team members whose own service areas cover the address.
  4. Your website: your service areas are listed on your RebookMedia website.

Service areas for team members

Each team member who provides services has their own service areas, so clients are only offered people who travel to their address.

  1. Go to Team (Navigation Panel > Business > Team).
  2. Click Update on the team member, then open Service areas.
  3. Type a city, county or ZIP code, pick it from the list, and click Add. To take one off, click Remove and then Confirm.

Your own service areas still need to cover the client's address, because clients check your business first, before choosing a professional. Service areas you add for team members don't count toward your plan's limit.

Plan limits

Your plan includes a set number of service areas. When you reach the limit, the Add Service Area button shows a lock and offers an upgrade, and you will see "Your plan allows N service areas. Remove one or upgrade to add more." Areas you already have keep working.

To make room, replace several cities in the same county with the whole county, or upgrade your plan.

Troubleshooting

Clients see "This Pro does not service this address"

  1. Check that one of your areas covers the client's address. If you added a city, the city in the client's address must be the same; add the whole county to be safe.
  2. Ask the client to choose their full address from the suggestions, including the street and ZIP code.

Clients in my area can't find me in the directory

  1. Check that your service areas cover the places they search.
  2. Check that your category is listed (see Manage your categories).

A team member isn't offered to clients

Check that they have their own service area covering the address, that they are a service provider, and that they are added to every service the client chose.

"This area is already in your list"

You already cover exactly that place. There is nothing more to do.

"Please pick a place from the list"

Start typing again and click one of the suggestions before you click Add Service Area.
